Today Let's Learn How to Make Pizza Dough!

Making pizza crust gives me a sense of nostalgia and brings me back to my childhood. More often than not, rather than having Totino’s for supper my mom would make pizza from scratch. She had a bunch of different copycat crust recipes but the one that stuck as a über basic recipe that I have memorized after making it numerous times. It’s one of those infamous ‘mom recipes’ that is never written down anywhere and consists of pinches, dashes, and heaps of things instead of actual measurements. Have no fear dear reader, I have figured out the amounts and recorded them below.

Easy Pizza Dough Recipe

  • ¾ cup warm (NOT HOT, warm to the touch)
  • 2 ¼ tsp yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder*
  • 1 ½ cup flour

*garlic powder is optional, but as a garlic loving girl it is necessary for me

Steps

  1. Combine the WARM water with the yeast. (Note: if the water is too hot it will kill the yeast and your dough won’t rise well) Stir well and let it sit until foamy or about five minutes.
  2. After your mixture has sat, add in the remaining ingredients. Bring the dough together by hand or with a dough hook. If the dough is too wet, add flour sparingly. Or if it’s too dry, add a small amount of water at a time.
  3. Once your dough has come together, knead for about five minutes.
  4. Grease a bowl and place your dough in. Cover the bowl with a cloth and wait at least 30 minutes.
  5. Ta da! Now you have pizza dough. Roll it out and top with your favorites. Preheat the oven at 400 F and bake until done (about 15-20 minutes)
